Road trips are a great way to get out with your friends and family and travel the country. During these trips you will inevitably get hungry and be tempted by the highly processed junk foods found at gas stations and convince stores during your trip. To help keep your healthy life style on track I have created a list of my Top 5 Best Road Trip Snacks.
Top 5 Best Road Trip Snacks:
- Fresh & Dried Fruits. It is so easy to stop and pick up a candy bar or other sweet treat when you are traveling but instead of filling body with processed sugars that aren’t good for you have a piece of fresh fruit or a nice handful of raisins, dates, apricots or other dried fruit to satisfy your sweet tooth.
- Vegetables with bean dip or salsa. Vegetables are filled with vitamins and nutrients that you need to maintain a healthy body. Instead of having chips and dip try cut up cucumbers, carrots and bell pepper with hummus, salsas or black bean dip.
- Nuts & Seeds. Nuts and seeds are filled with good fats and protein to help fuel our body. On your next road trip pack one serving (about a ¼ cup) size packets of nuts and seeds or try a natural unsweetened nut butter on whole grain bread or spread on a apple.
- Whole Food Energy Bars. Whole food energy bars are a great way to get all your nutrients in one place, however not all bars are created equal. Try to find bars that are filled with greens, low sugar, and other healthy ingredients like dried fruit and nuts.
- Trail Mix. This is a fun thing that you can make yourself before heading out on the road. The fun part about trail mix is you can really design it to your liking adding things like nuts, seeds, whole grain pretzels, dried fruit and maybe just for a little treat a few dark chocolate chips.
- Oh and #6 is WATER. It is important to stay hydrated when you travel. You may be tempted by energy drinks and coffee to give you a quick energy jolt but the best thing you can do for your body is to keep your cells hydrated.
